Rwanda is home to the mighty mountain gorilla in the magnificent lush forest of Volcanoes National Park. It is a humbling experience trekking to meet these impressive creatures.

The small, landlocked country of Rwanda is characterised by it's breathtaking scenery of undulating hills and mountainous terrain, from the lush rainforests to the west, which slope away to the valleys and lakes below, and into the savannahs and marshes to the east. The highlight of a visit to Rwanda is undoubtedly the mountain gorillas of the Virunga Mountains, however, Rwanda's incredible biodiversity allows a complete safari experience, from chimpanzee trekking in Nyungwe Forest to more traditional savannah-based safari in Akagera National Park. Although Rwanda's tragic history has been well documented, including the 1994 genocide, today 'The Land of a Thousand Hills' provides a remarkable and inspiring example of resilience to recover and rebuild from tragedy to become a stable, united and progressive country.

Rwanda’s capital stretches across undulating hills and valleys, radiating outwards into the surrounding countryside. Kigali is the country’s financial, commercial and cultural hub, featuring a world-class convention centre, vibrant shopping malls, a burgeoning art scene and numerous points of interest, including the Kigali Genocide Memorial, atmospheric markets and numerous craft shops.

With its interesting architecture, bustling streets, meandering boulevards, and green hillsides, Kigali has emerged from it's dark past to become one of Africa's most attractive cities and it's location at the geographical heart of Rwanda serves as the ideal base from which to explore this fascinating country.
