Luang Prabang is a city with much history and part of its intrigue lies in its fusion of French colonial and tradtional Lao architecture. Houses with Shutters and red-tiled roofs coupled with temples of sweeping roofs and gilded entrances make an interesting sight but a walk down the wat (temple) lined street towards and up Phou Si mountain will offer a sprawling view of the town.
Visit both the day and night markets to learn about the local industries, savour the local snacks and be one with the local hustle and bustle. The evenings are just as spectacular with the serenity and grace of the Baci ceremony—where peace offerings are tradionally made with white strings tied around your wrists as a hope for peace, health and prosperity.
These are a selection of lodges that we feel combine well for this journey. However we do also have a range of options to consider in each region, and can tailor them to you preference.
Set in a beautiful garden estate, Amantaka blends in with the charming, understated beauty of Laos. The colonial-style property is located just south of Mount Phousi in the centre of the picturesque Luang Prabang peninsula; within walking distance of the many boutiques, bakeries and restaurants along the main street.
Hidden in the lush green jungle that surrounds the historic royal settlement of Luang Prabang, a river—emanating from a flowing waterfall—runs through the heart of this exotic retreat. Taking its cue from the French-Lao architecture for which the town is known, the interiors of the Luang Prabang resort reflect the influences of ancient temples, while luxurious tented villas celebrate the explorer spirit.
Satri House is one of the most exquisite places in this ancient city, designed with a style inspired by Lao culture and set in a truly relaxing environment. Here you can enjoy private moments to yourself and really unwind or sit and watch the everyday life of local people from your balcony.
