Lying along the West Coast of Italy on the Tyrrhenian Sea is Campania. With Naples as its capital, and also the birthplace of the illustrious margherita pizza, we can be sure the culinary delights will be aplenty.
With the allure of the beautiful Amalfi coast and the transporting power of Pompeii, Campania is one of our favourite regions in Italy. With Sorrento as our base, we are able to roam and explore both the historic grandeur and its natural beauty. Sorrento itself, between mountain and Mediterranean sea is a delight to uncover. Olive groves and lemon trees speckle the town which includes a charming main shopping street where you can find local produce and souvenirs. From there we hop in a car and cruise along what is one of the most beautiful coastal routes—Sorrento to Salerno. Breath-taking views accompany your ride with a sheer drop down to azure waters.
Towns like Positano are worth stopping over, with restaurants ranging from the basic to the fine-dining, and a lovely pebbled beach to spend the day on. Not to mention Pompeii, where we get a glimpse into what Rome looked like 2,000 years back. An important city in their civilisation, it was buried in ash when Mount Vesuvius errupted.
Campania is lively and energetic with local life. A sojourn here is spent indulging in summer weather and delicious coastal fare.
These are a selection of lodges that we feel combine well for this journey. However we do also have a range of options to consider in each region, and can tailor them to you preference.
