Mrauk U & Loikaw
The Path to Mrauk U & Loikaw begins at the city of Yangon, through restless markets and busy streets, where the fusion of historical and contemporary architecture is a compelling backdrop to its urban life.
After a short flight to Sittwe we will journey along the Lemro River to Mrauk U to learn about the fishing and farming practices of the Chin villagers. We head back to Sittwe on a scenic drive through the beautiful countryside that offers some breathtaking landscapes.
We make a pit-stop for the night at Yangon once again on our way to Loikaw, this time to see the Shwedagon pagoda at dusk—a magnificient gilded pagoda that becomes rridescent as it reflects the setting sun.
The journey continues on a plane to Loikaw to visit the Kayah villages, acquaint ourselves in their traditions and hear stories of the long-necked women and their legends.
The journey concludes with at Inle Lake. High up above ground in a hot air balloon or down on the ground through the ruins of Indein, Inle has much to see and explore.
Take a boat from Mrauk U across the Lemro River to the village and meet a family to learn about the traditions and culture of the Chin people.
Through the Shan Hills where you could hop off at one stop to cycle alongside and then hop back on the train at the next stop. Just to mix things up!
