Path to

Within the bosom of the abandoned tropical landscape and the foreboding volcanoes of Central Java lies a true gem that embodies the heart of Eastern spirituality.

Since its rediscovery in the 1700s by the English colonialists, this ancient Buddhist monument from the 9th century still continues to inspire pilgrimage to its sacred yet accessible confines as well as to the way of life that surrounds it.

Our journey begins with the flavours and the day-to-day of the markets at Muntilan and the local Magelang villages. The magic of Borobodur begins at sunrise the following day, at its most auspicious hour. An expert-led tour will cover all aspects of this important Buddhist monument: from its indigenous design characteristics to its historical significance; but above all, much time will be spared for your own spirituality and self-discovery.

Enveloped by the rainforest of central Java, Amanjiwo is set within a natural amphitheatre where the Menoreh Hills rise up nearby and the farmlands of the Kedu Plain spread below steep volcanoes on the horizon. Crafted from local limestone, the sweeping circular monolith at the heart of Amanjiwo frames the views of Borobudur.
